Another Update

Well, with a rather heavy heart, we continue to wait for news of our Venezuelan family which we were matched with in September. Nothing is happening. One can surmise that the outcome of the 2024 presidential election is having a chilling effect on any emigrant families, even though their presence here would be welcome and perfectly legal. Meanwhile we continue to pay to store the furniture and other household items we have collected for them. In other developments, Alight, our Private Sponsorship Coach, had withdrawn from that role in the USA, because Welcome Corps has told them funding is no longer going to be available. Clearly another effect of the election. Private sponsorship in the US seems to be faltering. If nothing happens before the official inauguration of Trump, it seems likely we will be closing down our efforts. Holding out faint hopes. Happy new year!
